Mysterious Gionee Smartphone With 18:9 Display Spotted On GFXBench

In the year 2017, one trend which most of the smartphone manufacturers have adopted is fitting their smartphones with a bezel-less display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. What started off as an unusual aspect ratio to have on a smartphone display, soon went on to become something which everyone is trying to implement. Speaking of this, we already have a ton of manufacturers who are already doing this and on the same lines, it looks like now, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Gionee is also looking to get onboard.

A new mysterious smartphone from Gionee has now been spotted on GFXBench, which is benchmarking website. And yes, you guessed it right, it has a display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone which we talking about here is listed as Gionee SW17W08. It was spotted on GFXBench and the benchmark listing says that it sports a 6-inch display measuring 720×1440 pixels resolution. And as you can already tell by looking at the resolution, the display has the same aspect ratio as of that of some of the other smartphones launched the market recently.

However, talking about the other specs of the smartphone, it is listed to be running on MediaTek MT6757CD Helio P25, which is an octa-core CPU clocked at 2.6Ghz and it is coupled with a Mali-T880 GPU for graphics processing. In terms of the RAM, we are looking at 4GB of memory and it also has 64GB of internal storage. There is no info regarding the expandable and hence we can’t comment on that just yet. Now, coming to the optics, we are looking at both 5MP front as well as rear-facing shooters. However, it looks like the rear-facing camera will have another sensor as well, making it a dual sensor setup. Another important thing to note here is that both the cameras are capable of recording videos up to 4k resolution.

The GFXBench listing also says that the smartphone is running on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. Having said that, this device certainly looks like a promising offering. But considering the fact that there are a ton of smartphones out there with 18:9 aspect ratio display like the recently launched Micromax Canvas Infinity, Gionee has to do something really innovative to reach out well.
